This tool helps you make decisions by evaluating choices against weighted attributes. Here's how it works:
- First, create attribute groups and assign percentage weights to the attributes
- Add the choices that you want to evaluate
- For each choice, rate how well it performs on each attribute (positive or negative)
- The app will calculate a final score for each choice based on the weighted attributes
- Your work is saved automatically as you make changes
- Save your work permanently by copying the JSON data
Understanding the weights:
- Group Weights (1-10): Control how much each group contributes to the final score. A group with weight 6 has twice the impact of a group with weight 3.
- Item Weights (percentages): Control how much each item contributes within its group. The percentages must add up to 100% within each group.
Example: If you're evaluating multiple job offers, you might create attribute groups like:
- Compensation (Base Salary 40%, Annual Bonus 30%, Stock Options 20%, 401k Match 10%)
- Work-Life Balance (Remote Work Options 35%, Flexible Hours 25%, Vacation Days 25%, Workload 15%)
- Career Growth (Learning Opportunities 30%, Promotion Path 30%, Industry Impact 20%, Company Growth 20%)
- Culture & Environment (Team Dynamics 30%, Office Location 20%, Company Values 30%, Work Environment 20%)
- Lifestyle Concessions (Commute Time 30%, Stress Level 40%, Work Hours 20%, Travel Requirements 10%)
Rate each job offer on different factors to compare them objectively. The app weighs both good things (salary, benefits) and bad things (long commute, stress).
For negative factors like commute time, mark the group as "negative" so higher values hurt your score instead of help it.
You can set how important each group is using weights. If you set Compensation to 8 and Lifestyle Issues to 6, pay matters more than lifestyle in your final score.
Within each group, percentages show how much each factor matters. If Base Salary is 40% and 401k Match is 10%, salary has four times more impact on that group's score.
Resize group items by dragging vertical dividers, or by using the UP and DOWN arrow keys while editing an item label.
The percentages must add up to 100%.
Rate each item based on your gut feeling - there's no need to be precise. Simply drag the slider to where it feels right for each factor. Higher ratings for positive factors (like salary) improve your score, while higher ratings for negative factors (like commute time) decrease your score.
